7 Ways to Keep Your Bathroom Shelves Organized

Keeping bathroom shelves organized is essential for saving time. When items are arranged neatly, you can find what you need quickly, eliminating frustrating searches. Also, it promotes cleanliness because organized shelves discourage clutter buildup, making it easier to clean surfaces. On top of this, it maximizes space utilization — by arranging items efficiently, you create more room for storage and prevent overcrowding.

In my experience as the Professional Organizer and Brand Ambassador of Modular Closets (a DIY customizable closet system that organizes any space in your home), I have discovered a number of ways to keep bathroom shelves organized. If you are looking to organize your bathroom shelves, follow these steps:

1. Declutter to free up valuable shelf space. To do this, get rid of any expired items, empty bottles, and products you no longer use.

2. Organize according to product category. Group similar items together like skincare products, bathing essentials, makeup, first-aid, etc. Then place these items on the shelves based on frequency of use. For example, everyday items like deodorant and toothpaste should be on an eye-level shelf for easy access. Reserve higher or lower shelves for products you use less frequently (like waxing strips and pedicure sets).

3. To keep your items visible and easily accessible on the shelves, invest in quality drawer organizers and/or clear containers. Drawer organizers, baskets, or clear containers can help maintain order while preventing smaller items from getting lost on shelves.

4. To organize your medicine cabinet, group medications by type and then use labeled containers or drawer dividers. Also, store all medications in a cool, dry spot away from direct sunlight so the medications don’t go bad. Keep a first-aid kit in an easily accessible spot (like in a prominent drawer in your bathroom) so you can grab it at a moment’s notice.

5. Keep your bathroom sink area organized and neat by incorporating clear organizers for makeup, hair accessories, etc. Keep the countertop clear and tidy by only storing daily essentials on it.

6. Store everyday cleaning products (sanitizing wipes, rubber gloves, a sponge, carpet spot cleaner, etc.) in a caddy so it’s easy to quickly grab-and-go when sudden spills or other messes arise. Also designate a caddy for bathroom cleaning supplies (shower cleaner, grout cleaner, etc.) so all supplies are at the ready when it’s time to clean the bathroom. Do a regular decluttering purge to get rid of empty bottles, cleaning supplies you don’t use, and expired items.

7. Maximize vertical space by incorporating shelves or organizers that make use of the entire height of your bathroom walls. Wall-mounted shelves or tiered baskets can be a game-changer, providing additional storage without taking up valuable counter space.”
